BEING A REBOOT AIN’T EASY. We all know most reboots flame-out just as quickly as did this year’s “Charlie’s Angels” (and we won’t even mention NBC’s “Knight Rider” from a few years back … or “Bionic Woman” … or “V”). Compared to that crowd, “90210” was a smashing success. No – fans of the original never really cared much about this reboot, and the old-school cast members were lost on the younger new audience, who probably assumed that the phrase "Shannon and Dylan" referred to an indie band. However the show caught the attention of enough young girls on the CW to stand on its own feet for an impressive four seasons, a strong feat for any program.
TVbythenumbers has “90210” certainly on the bubble, and at generally less than 1.5 million per episode, it’s not really ruling the CW lineup. That said, “Secret Circle” itself has been struggling to break 2 million lately. So the ultimate question will be what CW has in the tank. If all they have is something along the lines of the woeful “Hart of Dixie,” then “90210” may survive. But if CW pulls some good options as it considers new shows this spring, then the number might be up for this aging teen soap.
