We remarked that the comedy race might be closer than normal, and that’s doubly true of the Emmy race for best drama – where one would be foolish to rule out any of the contenders. That said, some may have a better shot than others. “Game of Thrones” might be on the outside looking in, if only because this extended drama is still building a following via DVD and on-demand viewing. “Homeland” has to be in the mix, given that it won the Golden Globes last winter – and surely HBO is campaigning heavily for quality drama “Boardwalk Empire.” Then you have the really big three: “Breaking Bad” with Bryan Cranston’s incomparable portrayal of teacher-drug-lord Walter White, “Downton Abbey” and its record-smashing numbers on PBS, and that four-time winner “Mad Men,” which did everything in its power to earn a fifth nod. We refuse to pick a winner there, but we’ll let you take a shot. Good luck!
