30-Day Smackdown: Which Will Make More, "The Avengers" or "The Dark Knight Rises"?
BOTH HIGH-OCTANE, action-packed, ensemble-casted, and star-directed, these two comic-book-based features are predicted to bring down the house this summer. Don’t call them just another couple of summer blockbusters; these two are both headed to the top of the charts at full speed. Marvel’s The Avengers follows up a trail of Marvel-superhero action features, including Iron Man II (opening weekend $128M), Iron Man ($98M), Captain America ($65M), Thor ($65M), and The Incredible Hulk ($55M). And The Dark Knight Rises continues the Batman series as the third installment, after Batman Begins ($48M) and The Dark Knight ($158M!). Although the Marvel series has a history of producing very successful summer superhero movies, The Dark Knight Rises is poised to eclipse last summer’s chart-breaking Batman feature. We want to go with the darker stuff here, but The Avengers are already poised to give Batman a record-breaking run for his not-so-hard-earned money.
