How Much Will "Gone" Gross in its Opening Weekend?

FEBRUARY is a month in which we talk about the Oscars, but we sure don’t get them in the movie theater – witness everything from the sentimental “The Vow” to camp movies like “Ghost Rider 2.” On actual Oscar weekend you can expect the same. Tyler Perry comes the closed to quality with “Good Deeds,” and he’s a safe bet to win the weekend – moreover he took on the Oscars in 2009 with “Madea Goes to Jail,” and that worked well with an eyebrow-raising $41M haul. Perry can seemingly whip out $25 and $20 million debuts in his sleep, and his biggest slipup was “For Colored Girls” that still clocked in at $19 bills. So write that one down. “Act of Valor” was originally marketed as a “Hurt Locker” ripoff, but that must not have worked, as it is now depicted as a masculine adrenaline fix. Look for that one to potentially break double digits, if not the teens. Beyond that? The woeful nudist comedy “Wanderlust” with Jennifer Aniston drew crickets when we saw the preview at the movie theater – and Amanda Seyfried’s “Gone” looks about as strong as the Netflix guilty pleasure “Chloe” (which could make a Lifetime melodrama blush). Those two should round out the pack with single-digits as moviegoers forget the theaters and tune in for some Oscar night fun. 1/30/2012
