EVERY COLLEGE has them: the ubiquitous a cappella singing groups that solicit freshmen during opening weeks and subject the entire student body to their finger-snapping, beatboxing diddies throughout the year. Well, if there are any actual a cappella fans out there: good news! “Pitch Perfect” is the story of a college freshman, Beca (Anna Kendrick), recruited into a fictional college’s most competitive a cappella group, led by Gail (Elizabeth Banks). The trailer makes it pretty clear that this movie isn’t trying to take itself too seriously—in fact, they’ve included comedy genius Rebel Wilson in their cast too boost the laughs. That said, most recent musicals haven’t broken past the $15M mark at their best (“Across the Universe” made only $667k in its opening weekend, “Burlesque” $11.9M, and most recently “Rock of Ages” made $14M in its opening weekend this summer). So we’re saying $10M at best here…do you agree or disagree?
