30-Day Smackdown: Which Will Make More, "Prometheus" or "Total Recall (2012)"?

IN OUR HUMBLE OPINION, it’s almost unfair to pit anyone against master sci-fi genius director Ridley Scott (we were gonna include a list of his greatest hits here, but it’s impossible to keep it brief). But in terms of numbers, Total Recall can compete with Prometheus as a sci-fi thriller that hearkens back to retro roots. While Total Recall is a remake of the 1990 classic (itself inspired by a short story from another scifi legend Philip K. Dick), Prometheus is a space-based prequel to Scott’s epic Alien (1979). Prometheus definitely has the right director here, but Total Recall has a competitive, star-filled cast that includes Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, and Jessica Biel. Typically, remakes several decades later don’t tend to fare very well at the box office, so we’re leaning toward Prometheus here on the basis of its previous installments and its directors’ cachet alone.

Not at all that Prometheus is one that I personally would even care to see, just think that they waited way to long on the Total Recall thing to bring it back and don't think that Colin Farrell is anywhere near the right actor to have chosen for this role. I think that choice compares to casting Paul Reubens for an Einstein role. It just seems a little obvious to me which way this one will go. Can't wait to see my payout on this one.

Now I am wondering why screenwriters don't find something different to write about instead of re hashing the same old thing. Is it because they can't "recall" anything in their imaginations so they "recall" the old and tried and maybe not so true?? No remakes never do well unless its a more than a ten year break because then we viewers and movie goers are in an "alien" state of mind and can't recall much of what happened yesterday much less ten years ago. So we watch the "trailers" on TV and we think we haven't seen this one so we go put down our money for the "show" only once we start watching we realize it's the same old thing only to tell ourselves I won't do this again until ten years later and someone has rewritten all those fairy tales...When I bet on this one my money will be for Prometheus cause I'm hoping they find our alien beginnings somewhere in this film.....

I have no desire to see either one of these movies personally, but, I do believe that Prometheus will perform better at the box office than Total Recall. Alien was a great Sci-Fi movie that they were able to turn into a franchise with sequals. I can see fans of Alien looking forward to new material in the form of a prequel. Total Recall, on the other hand, just sounds like another tired attempt at an unecessary remake.

Look at Colin Farrell in Fright Night: a bad remake. It is the same for Total Recall.
