How Much Will "Prometheus" Gross in its Opening Weekend?
IT'S BEEN 30 YEARS since the original “Alien” came out, and fifteen since “Alien Resurrection,” the last film in the series. To satisfy those who miss the stomach-tearing little critters, director Ridley Scott brings us “Prometheus,” a prequel to “Alien.” Set in the same universe as the other films but not directly related to them in terms of plot, “Prometheus” explores different ideas and has a different mythos than its predecessors. The film centers around the crew of the Prometheus, who attempt to find the origins of mankind by exploring a distant alien civilization. Obviously, things go wrong. Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender are hot stars (Rapace was the original Swedish "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," and Fassbender is, like,
everywhere). Throw in Charlize Theron and a built-in audience, plus a whole new generation of viewers, and we're thinking that “Prometheus” will top the $40M mark, especially since its only competition that weekend is the kiddie movie “Madagascar 3.”
