How Much Will “Superhero Movie” Gross in its Opening Weekend?
Tags: comedy Spoof

THE MARKET: “Superhero Movie” goes into wide release on Friday, March 28, 2008. How much will it gross in its opening weekend as first reported by Variety on March 30? Each dollar of the share price represents millions of dollars in sales. Shares bought at $15, for example, would be worth $39 if the movie grosses $39 million. Trading closes Jan 25 at 9, ET.
THE LOWDOWN: While the endless parade of spoof films may cause some to roll their eyes, just a few months ago “Meet the Spartans” surprised everyone with a healthy $18 million opening weekend, topping even Sylvester Stallone’s “Rambo.” This time around “Superhero Movie” takes on Spiderman, The Fantastic Four, and all of your favorite crusaders. In the case of “Catwoman,” the spoofers could just recreate original scenes and still get laughs.
THE PR: Quoteth the Weinstein Company at Rotten Tomatoes: “After being bitten by a genetically altered dragonfly, high school loser Rick Riker develops superhuman abilities like incredible strength and armored skin. … With unimaginable strength, unbelievable speed and deeply uncomfortable tights, will the Dragonfly be able to stop the sands of The Hourglass and save the world? More importantly, will we stop laughing long enough to notice?”
