THE MARKET: Will “Cavemen” be renewed for the fall season by ABC? If the show is renewed for the fall, shares are worth $100. If it isn’t, they’re worth $0. Trading will close when a final announcement is made by ABC, or by June 11, whichever comes first. See TV confirmation guidelines.
THE LOWDOWN: Will “Cavemen” survive? More important, is this the last “Cavemen” market on Media Predict? For whatever reason, our users have flocked to our Cro-Magnon markets ever since we first asked last summer whether the show even would make it on the air. Geico even ran a seeming requiem for the sit-com in a Super Bowl commercial poking fun at the show. After the strike, ABC announced a handful of renewals for the fall season – and “Cavemen” wasn’t on the list. Is extinction at hand?
THE PR: Not yet, say faithful fans. And apparently New York Magazine’s “Vulture” blog – mimicking the “Jericho” fan campaign of last summer (in which fans sent tons of peanuts to CBS offices to save the show) – is out to do something about it. “Vulture is hereby encouraging our loyal readers to send your hair to ABC Entertainment president Stephen McPherson, along with a note reading, ‘Cavemen: Hair Today, Hair Tomorrow!’ in the hopes that we, too, might rescue our favorite show.”
