NOTE: Mega Markets are designed to generate long-range forecasts and close one month before the currently scheduled opening weekend. All participants still in the market at the close of trading will immediately receive $200 in fantasy money for their participation.
THE MARKET: “The Incredible Hulk” goes into wide release on Friday, June 13, 2008. How much will it gross in its opening weekend as first reported by Variety on June 15? Each dollar of the share price represents millions of dollars in sales. Shares bought at $45, for example, would be worth $78 if the movie grosses $78 million. Trading closes a month before the opening, May 13, at midnight, PT.
THE LOWDOWN: Ed Norton and Liv Tyler star in the newest adaptation of “The Incredible Hulk,” hot on the heels of 2003’s “Hulk.” Bruce Banner’s last romp through the cineplexes raked more than $60 million in its opening weekend and over $245 million at the worldwide box office, but it cost $150 million and was widely seen as a flop.
THE PR: According to the New York Times, with the newest “Hulk,” Marvel is “attempting what it openly calls a do-over.” The trailer for this go-round doesn’t spare many details of the story arc. First Norton doesn’t want to control “it” he wants to get rid of “it.” Then he decides if he can control “it” he can use “it” to take out a monster of similarly superhuman strength who’s terrorizing innocent citizens. Will “The Incredible Hulk” get the green on?
