THE MARKET: “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” goes into wide release on Friday, May 16, 2007. How much will it gross in its opening weekend as first reported by Variety on May 18? Each dollar of the share price represents millions of dollars in sales. Shares bought at $15, for example, would be worth $39 if the movie grosses $39 million. Trading closes May 16 at 9 a.m. ET.
THE LOWDOWN: The original installment of “The Chronicles of Narnia” was released in 2005 and grossed north of $65 million in its opening weekend. Its sequel figures to be the first huge summer blockbuster. Tilda Swinton, she of the best supporting actress Oscar for her work in “Michael Clayton,” stars alongside titular character Ben Barnes, Liam Neeson, and Eddie Izzard. Andrew Adamson (writer/director) and Christopher Markus (writer) return from the original “Chronicles.” Can they conjure up box office magic once again?
THE PR: Producer Mark Johnson has his eye on the fourth “Narnia” flick already, which would lead you to believe he’s feeling pretty good about the upcoming “Prince Caspian.”
