THE MARKET: Will “I Survived A Japanese Game Show” on ABC make it to a fifth episode? The reality show will premiere on Tuesday, June 24, at 9:00 p.m. ET, and run weekly in that timeslot. Trading will close after a third episode is aired. If a fifth episode airs, shares are worth $100. If it doesn’t, they’re worth $0. See TV confirmation guidelines.
THE DATA: Produced by the same people who brought us “Hell’s Kitchen” and Gordon Ramsay, “I Survived A Japanese Gameshow” seeks to capitalize on the legendary craziness of Japanese reality TV. The show is hosted by no one you’ve ever heard of, and offers a cast of non-celebrity contestants, but makes a nice coupling with “Wipeout” airing in half-hour slot before.
OUR TAKE: Remember how we compared “Wipeout” to Japanese game shows? This just took out the middleman. According to ABC, the “show takes an eye-opening, behind-the-scenes look at 10 Americans – many of whom have never traveled outside the United States – who are whisked away to Japan to compete in the ultimate Japanese game show…with hilarious results.” Okay, so who are we mocking with this show? The Japanese? Check. Un-worldly American contestants? Check. Anyone else? The viewing public? We’ll find out. —Leigh Kunkel
