THE MARKET: Will “Flashpoint” on CBS make it to a fifth episode? The drama will premiere on Tuesday, July 11, at 10:00 p.m. ET, and run weekly in that timeslot. Trading will close after a third episode is aired. If a fifth episode airs, shares are worth $100. If it doesn’t, they’re worth $0. See TV confirmation guidelines.
THE DATA: Debuting in a dismal Friday 10 p.m. timeslot in the depth of summer bodes poorly for “Flashpoint.” Notably this crime procedural comes by way of Canada and will be the first show since “Due South” in 1994 to air in both Canada and the U.S.
OUR TAKE: CBS needs a hit that isn’t reality TV or another “CSI” spinoff. So they’ve assembled … some people. (People who are part of an elite police unit that does everything from talking down suicidal teenagers to defusing bombs.) If there’s enough viewer interest in the crime procedural genre to support round-the-clock episodes of “Law & Order,” who are we to say there’s not room for more? Among the most exciting things about this show is the return of the Pink Ranger (aka Amy Jo Johnson.) And there’s that guy from “Just Shoot Me,” and some other guy. Will “Flashpoint” catch fire in a dismal summer timeslot? We doubt it. —Earl Munro
