THE MARKET: Life With My Sister Madonna by Christopher Ciccone will be published on Tuesday, July 15. How many weeks will it spend on the New York Times bestseller list? Each $10 dollars of the share price represents one week on the list. Shares bought at $40, for example, would be worth $90 if the book spends 9 weeks in succession in the top 15 of the list. If the book doesn’t make the list in either of the first two weeks in which it’s eligible, shares will be worth $0. Trading will cease and the market will be cashed out when the book exits the list.
THE DATA: Not since “If I Did It: Confessions of the Killer” has a book’s title given away so much of the plotline. Christopher Ciccone’s upcoming book is about, you guessed it, life with his sister Madonna. Simon & Schuster is laying down a monster first printing of 350,000, which means they have extremely high hopes.
OUR TAKE: What do you get the sister who has everything for her 50th birthday? A memoir wherein you bash her of course. Rumor has it Madoo is less than pleased, and may even have tried to block the book’s publication. That apparently failing, one of her flacks went on the offensive, portraying Ciccone as a junkie, deadbeat, and ingrate in no particular order. —Earl Munro
