THE MARKET: Will “Frost/Nixon” win the Golden Globe Award for best drama? Trading will close at 4 p.m. PT on Jan. 11. If “Frost/Nixon” wins the award, shares are worth $100. If it doesn’t, they’re worth $0. THE DATA: Nominees include “The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button,” “Frost/Nixon,” “The Reader,” “Revolutionary Road,” “Slumdog Millionaire.” THE PR: Although we’ll give a nod to “Slumdog,” this one should come down to “Curious Case” and “Frost/Nixon” – and we’re just going to throw our hat in with the latter. Sure, “Curious Case” has quality written all over it, but expectations are simply too high for the Christmas-day major release. Once the marketing buzz wears off, sentiment can only decline. Whereas “Frost/Nixon” is benefitting from the traditional phased release, enabling word-of-mouth to grow. And it will only gain momentum: the heavyweight climax, an interview between David Frost and a pardoned Nixon, is some of the best stuff we’ve seen this year.
