How Will "Percy Jackson & The Olympians" Open?

Except there is one important difference: this stuff looks really bad. Basically Percy Jackson is a normal kid who goes to some “accelerated school” and learns about Greek mythology. He also likes swimming and can hold his breath for seven minutes. Then he learns about (hush!) descendents of Greek Gods who were half-divine and half-human! And he learns he’s one of them, an actual descendent of Poseidon! Yep, that’s the deal folks. Of course a predictable-as-hell plot breaks out in which some evil forces want Percy, and in which some good forces try to protect him – inaugurating some Greek-Hogwarts-Voldemort war that has already driven a multi-book series. Will that work in film? The effects are fine, and the trailer manages a grave tone (and they even copy the “Harry Potter” font for the logo). But this stuff is expensive, and “Percy” is just not good enough to sustain a film franchise of “Potter” proportions (and costs). $14 million tops as the “Percy” epic turns into a one-and-done Greek tragedy. <em>1/10/10</em>.<br /> </span></span> <img src="http://content.mediapredict.com/images/filler.gif" alt="" /> <span class="bodycopynowidth largetext" style="border: 0px solid #000000; padding-right: 0px;"> <strong>THE MARKET:</strong> “Percy Jackson & The Olympians” goes into wide release on <strong>Friday, Feb. 12, 2010</strong>. How much will it gross in its opening weekend as first reported by <em>Variety</em>? Each dollar of the share price represents millions of dollars in sales. Shares bought at $45, for example, would be worth $78 if the movie grosses $78 million in that weekend.
