Will The Scene Aesthetic Get a Record Deal?
THE MARKET: Will The Scene Aesthetic get a major-label or indie-label record deal by September 30, 2007? If either of these happens, shares are worth $100. If neither happens, shares are worth $0.
THE LOWDOWN: A regular on the unsigned artist charts at both MySpace and purevolume, The Scene Aesthetic for many embodies that collegiate “MySpace” sound (where you swear this stuff has been the background music to at least one MTV reality show). They’ve got an enormous following and tons of merchandise at their well-designed website. Are they about to go big?
THE PR: From The Scene Aesthetic’s web site: “Eric Bowley and Andrew de Torres got together in January of 2005 to write a song, which later became ‘Beauty in the Breakdown.’ They realized its potential immediately and headed to the studio to record the single. With catchy guitar riffs and dueling vocals, it became an instant success among the online communities of Myspace and Purevolume. ... Now, nearing 2 million plays on MySpace, the band has more touring plans in support of their new record, ‘Building Homes From What We've Known.’ There are high expectations set by these two.
