THE MARKET: Vicki Nicholson’s I Don’t Know Jack is available for publication. Will it get a book deal or make the Project Publish Shortlist by September 17, 2007? If either of these happens, shares are worth $100. If neither happens, shares are worth $0.
THE AUTHOR: After graduating with a degree in English Literature from the University of Florida, Vicki Yeager Nicholson moved to New York City to explore a career in acting. After some minor success she wrote a short story that was the inspiration for a short film entitled “Tortured.” Rediscovering her talent in fiction, Vicki began attending writers’ workshops at NYU. Her first publication came when she sold a travel article to His & Hers magazine. After the article Vicki finished her first novel. She is now working hard on her second novel while acquiring her MFA in creative writing from The New School.
THE LOWDOWN: Dive Bars, public sex, lost love, and a toast to Charles Bukowski are only a few of the treasures found in this bourbon-soaked novel. We are introduced to the world of Jack, a charming sentimentalist with a talent for self- destructive behavior. His suicidal ex’s, a phony marriage, a new lawyer girlfriend all plague our friend as he is reminded by a big neon sign that “Karma” truly is a bitch. Sit down for last call and see how Jack and his friends struggle to make their dreams come true in a city where lightning can strike and sometimes burn.
THE BUZZ: Referred from a literary agent actively representing the book. See market advice.
