THE
MARKET: Will Janet Jackson’s upcoming album “Discipline” debut in the top five of the Billboard 200 ? If it does, shares are worth $100. If it doesn’t, shares are worth $0. The album will be released on February 26. Trading closes at 11:59 p.m. March 2. The market will be cleared when Billboard releases new charts on March 6.
THE LOWDOWN: Janet Jackson’s two albums since the “wardrobe malfunction” at the 2004 Super Bowl haven’t exactly tanked – both climbed to #2 on the Billboard 200 – but they haven’t set the world on fire, either. “Discipline” was in part produced by beau (but not husband!) and hitmaker Jermaine Dupri: can he work the same magic on “Discipline” that he did on Mariah Carey’s “Mimi”?
THE PR: When asked about the title of her new album, Jackson told MTV News’ Jayson Rodriguez, “It has a lot of different meanings for me. But the most important is my discipline in my work. To have done it for as long as I have … there’s a lot of discipline in that, and focus. And obviously, God.” Obviously.
