Mega Market: "Quantum of Solace" Opening Weekend

NOTE: Mega Markets are designed to generate long-range forecasts and close one month before the currently scheduled opening weekend. All participants still in the market at the close of trading will immediately receive $200 in fantasy money for their participation. THE MARKET: “Quantum of Solace” goes into wide release on Friday, November 7, 2008. How much will it gross in its opening weekend as first reported by Variety on November 10? Each dollar of the share price represents millions of dollars in sales. Shares bought at $45, for example, would be worth $78 if the movie grosses $78 million. Trading closes October 9 at 11:59 p.m. PT.
THE DATA: Daniel Craig earned heaps of praise for his performance in “Casino Royale,” which powered to an eventual domestic haul of nearly $170 million. Its $40.8 million debut seems likely be topped by the opening weekend for “Quantum.”
OUR TAKE: Paul Haggis, Robert Wade and Neal Purvis, the writing team behind “Casino Royale,” also penned the script for “Quantum of Solace.” Marc Forster replaces Martin Campbell as director (so in the unlikely event this Bond flick fails to deliver, we’ll know exactly who to blame). Expect a much-anticipated “Quantum” to blow past the rest of the Bond flicks regardless.
