THE MARKET: “W” goes into wide release on Friday, October 17, 2008. How much will it gross in its opening weekend as first reported by Variety on October 20? Each dollar of the share price represents millions of dollars in sales. Shares bought at $45, for example, would be worth $78 if the movie grosses $78 million. Trading closes on October 17 at 9 a.m. ET.
THE DATA: Oliver Stone will drop “W” into what’s already a highly-charged political atmosphere a mere two and a half weeks before the ’08 election.
OUR TAKE: Josh Brolin is receiving early accolades for what’s said to be his uncanny portrayal of W. Anthony Breznican at USA Today deemed it “not quite out of left field.” Given the real W’s unpopularity, it’s hard to build early buzz for this picture. But we expect a big press push late, and therefore higher revenues than the $10.10 million predicted by your Mega market. LEARN MORE: See the “W” home page.
