THE MARKET: Catherine Raffaele’s “The Thirteen Virtues” is available for publication. Will it get a book deal or make the Project Publish Shortlist by September 17, 2007? If either of these happens, shares are worth $100. If neither happens, shares are worth $0.

THE AUTHOR: Catherine Raffaele, a lifelong admirer of Benjamin Franklin, is a successful management consultant.

THE LOWDOWN: Franklin’s Thirteen Virtues have been the subject of a number of books, mostly as a minor inclusion in a biography or as his self-improvement plan mixed up in a larger examination of his life. Never before have these Thirteen Virtues been set out as simply, succinctly, with examples from his life, and with commentary from famous contemporary Americans on how each of the virtues has helped and inspired them, as planned in this book.

THE BUZZ: Referred from a literary agent actively representing the book.

We’ve had so many self-help books by so-called experts, but who better than one of the great American success stories to help us achieve success. I reckon this book has great potential.

I get the idea… Ben Franklin’s own To Do list should be inspirational. But the proposal is so DRY… would the manuscript be just as dull? I hope not.
