THE MARKET: Jeremy Robinson’s
The Didymus Contingency is one of five finalist book proposals in Project Publish. On Oct. 9, editors at Touchstone Books of Simon & Schuster will award one finalist a publishing deal. Will Jeremy walk away with the grand prize? If he does, shares are worth $100. If he doesn’t, shares are worth $0.
THE AUTHOR: After writing for several comic books, thirteen screenplays and a non-fiction book (The Screenplay Workbooks, 2003, Lone Eagle Press) Robinson decided to try his hand at writing novels. The Didymus Contingency, Robinson’s first self-published novel, has sold nearly six thousand copies to date (in English) and has been translated into Romanian, Bulgarian and Spanish. Robinson just recently released his third novel, Antarktos Rising, which was promoted by a history-making viral video campaign, now viewed more than 40,000 times. He has just finished writing his sixth novel. For more information, see www.jeremyrobinsononline.com.
THE LOWDOWN: If you could go back in time and witness any event, where would you go? When Dr. Tom Greenbaum faces that question after successfully discovering the secret to time travel, he knows the time, place and event he will witness: the death and failed resurrection of Jesus Christ. Dr. David Goodman, Tom’s colleague and closest friend follows Tom into the past, attempting to avert a time-space catastrophe, but forces beyond their control toss them into a dangerous end game where they are tempted by evil characters, betrayed by friends, pursued by an assassin from the future and haunted by a demon that cannot be killed.
THE BUZZ: The Didymus Contingency is Lulu.com’s #1 fiction title and has been for two years, with praise from figures such as NY Times Bestseller James Rollins (see PDF, below). All Media Predict proposals have access to literary representation. See market advice.

I tried to read it, and the beginning set in Africa was well done. But when it got to the time-travel part back to become part of Jesus’s gang, I gave up. It just doesn’t interest me. There might be some publicity value in the point of view that Jesus acts like an ordinary guy and that Tom tries to debunk his aura of holiness. The religion readers would be upset unless Tom converts, and the doubters wouldn’t care one way or the other. The title is singularly unappealing.

The author does something that is very difficult: he writes clear, engrossing action scenes. I’m a fan of science fiction, and of historical novels, so this is one that I feel qualified to comment on. It’s good. It isn’t perfect — many of the ideas here have been used in science fiction more than once. But I understand these characters, and I’m interested in them. That’s rare in any genre.

I would read this.
